Hello AskNep community,
I wanted to share an update on the Arun-III Hydropower Project, which is a significant national undertaking currently under construction in Sankhuwasabha District. This 900 MW project is expected to be a major boost to Nepal's energy capacity.
Recent reports indicate that construction is progressing steadily despite various challenges, including the difficult terrain and the monsoon season. The dam construction is a critical component, and significant headway has been made on its core structure.
Tunneling work for the headrace tunnel, which will carry water to the powerhouse, is also nearing completion. This phase involves complex engineering due to the geological conditions of the region.
The project aims to alleviate Nepal's energy deficit and contribute substantially to the national grid. Once completed, it will be one of the largest hydropower projects in the country. The anticipated commissioning date is still on track for around 2025.
What are your thoughts on the impact of such large-scale projects on local communities and the environment? Are there any specific aspects of the Arun-III project you've been following?
